I’ll be doing a full article explaining these at some point in the future, but what follows is a list of all of the movies that ended up on the VPA’s “video nasties” list at some point. This makes them the main group of films banned in the UK under the 1984 Video Recordings Act, as opposed to those simply unavailable due to classification being refused (e.g. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Exorcist, etc.), or other reasons.
Of course, to any self-respecting horror fan in the 80s and 90s, this became a list of movies that you must have seen. Most were shoddy even in their original forms, let alone the 6th-gen VHS copies often traded among fans. But, they were worth seeing if only for the illicit thrill of getting something that had been outlawed. Many are available uncut in the UK today, and most are available in a cut form if not. I’ll review each movie at some point in the future, and link them here as I do so.
